30 weeks
My friends Amanda and Julie threw me a shower at my mom's house yesterday! It was so fun. Here is Leota (Adam's mom) bringing in her gift - a Moses basket FULL of goodies!
They are pretending it is the baby. Ha! That blanket was actually one made by ladies at church for Adam when he was born!
Cute cake (made out of cupcakes- my favorite!) that matches Baby Acklin's bedding!
My friend, Maria, made these favors! Buns in the oven for everyone!!
We played lots of fun games, then we decided Adam might want to come see what all we got.
The more educational something is, the more excited I get, especially when it has to do with multiple languages. This Lights and Sounds Mirror that Pat (Adam's stepmom) got us for the car teaches colors in THREE languages!
This is a closer up view of everything in the Moses basket we got! Complete with a Central "Tiger in Training" blanket and monkey with the Acklin name and number on its St. Louis Cardinals jersey!!
And I got a Tummy Tub!!
People weren't sure what to think of this "bucket" to bathe him in but believe me, I've researched these and they are wonderful for babies.
I opened this from my mom, and then thinking back to a few weeks ago, said, "He already IS my running buddy!" Ha! Whether he likes it or not!
The hostesses decided to make me and Adam eat baby food (like babies do, with someone else making sounds and noises and stuffing it into our mouths!) and try to guess what it was!
So, I THOUGHT I liked butternut squash...
Adam insisted he didn't like butternut squash to begin with!!
The meat wasn't any better!!
They tried to "get" me by giving me a doll, and proceeding to have me complete household chores... They must not realize "multi task" is my middle name, because I aced them all, in my opinion. :)
While I was getting the laundry out of the dryer, the phone rang.
Then the doorbell rang.
See? Easy, right?
Me and my girls, Julie and Amanda, with the infamous sign my father had made for us at Christmas!
It was such a fun shower, and we got so many things we needed. Adam and I just can't believe how blessed we are to have so many people that care about us and our baby boy. We got lots of cute clothes (would you expect anything else from my friends?), lamp for his room, car seat, high chair, playpen, toys, bath stuff, lots of practical stuff I never dreamed I needed (which I really appreciate!), and tons more!
In other news, I went back to the doctor this week (every two weeks now!), and I only gained 1/2 pound! I was relieved and told the nurse I could use a week like that! Even if it would have been more, that would be fine, because I know I am eating healthy and still working out (hard!) five days a week. I thought about doing the Aqua Moms class and kept thinking I would do those later in pregnancy when I can't do much else, but here I am and I'm still going regularly with my land routine! I do get out of breath and sometimes there is a pain on one side, but I just tone it down and do something different or walk some until it goes away. I still may get in the pool. I think it would feel good on my belly to have the water help hold it up!
Everything else looks good, he said. He guessed Baby A weighed about 2 1/2 pounds now. I went to see Dr. Simmons, another doctor at the clinic, and Adam and I absolutely loved him! (We love them all!) He was able to tell me where the baby is positioned and everything! For one thing (the most important!), is that he's officially HEAD DOWN!! Praise the Lord! I think Adam and I were secretly doing backflips, because that is the one unavoidable reason to have a c-section. (No doctors in central Arkansas deliver breech babies vaginally.) Dr. Simmons showed me where his head was and how to feel it, and he also confirmed that his little booty is just to the right, up by my rib cage! Sometimes it sticks out more than others, but I knew I was definitely feeling something round over there! I think he stays mostly on my right because that side aches a lot more than my left. He is still going crazy with movement; he definitely still has enough room to move around apparently. Adam can even feel him against his body if I'm facing him in bed. We seriously wonder what he thinks he's doing. The way he moves, it's like he has a project he's working on, like he's digging, kicking, building something, whatever, he needs to realize he's not going anywhere for a good while! Here's a picture of me at 31 weeks...
Our swivel glider came in and we picked it up yesterday, then we went through everything we got at the shower and tried to put it up. It is so weird that I get excited about baby stuff, and even Adam does too. He couldn't believe he was excited to go pick up the chair for his room and get it set up! I think he might start feeling a little overwhelmed thinking about having a son in a few weeks! He said he's worried he's going to be overprotective and he's already worrying about him getting hurt, etc. This is definitely something different for us, because usually I am the one who's the worry wart, and I am just excited! :)
One thing I think we both realize, though, is how important family is, and the impact parents have in forming their children's character and preparing them for life. It is our strongest prayer right now that we will be the Godly examples, both of marriage and individuals, that He intended. It can be scary thinking about this world, knowing family is the building block of society that Satan seeks to destroy. This weekend, Adam and I are going to a marriage conference we go to every year called Weekend to Remember. It is put on by Family Life, and even Adam looks forward to it. It's a perfect time for us to remember our eternal goal as we start a family!
